Nice to meet you
ABOUT ME
"Fully accredited by NAPCP, I hold both a BA Honours in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a BA in Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Science. Having trained and studied in Integrative Psychotherapy, I draw from the philosophical theory of existentialism through psychodynamic approaches that are tailor made to each client's presenting issues
I am a skilled and experienced Integrative Psychotherapist, meaning that I utilise many evidence based approaches in helping clients achieve their goals. These approaches can be solution focused brief therapy or long term depending on the clients needs. Issues catered for include Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Relationships & Family."
Padraig O'Toole MNAPCP
I have many years’ experience in the frontline psychological and crisis intervention fields where the philosophy for my private practice evolved. Through non-judgemental, empathic attunement and understanding, my clinical work is built on compassion and unconditional positive regard for all who engage with me.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I feel it is important not to get tied into one approach, but to blend the elements of different evidence based approaches according to each client’s individual presenting need. In my practice a new therapeutic approach is developed and tailored for each client attending as no two people are the same and no two issues are the same.
I utilise many evidence-based approaches in helping clients achieve their goals. These approaches can include Transactional Analysis, Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Family Systems and many more depending on the client’s needs. In a career helping clients with a multitude of issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, relationships and loss I now look forward to working with you on your journey of self-discovery and in supporting you in achieving autonomy, freedom and reaching your potential.
Some Integrative Approaches Used
Behavioral Therapy
In behavior therapy, the main focus is on learning's role in developing both normal and abnormal behaviors. This form of therapy looks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It’s based on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that behaviors can be changed. The focus of treatment is often on current problems and how to change them.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Its hallmarks are self-reflection and self-examination, and the use of the relationship between therapist and client as a window into problematic relationship patterns in the patient's life.
Transactional analysis is a comprehensive approach which incorporates aspects of humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapy.Transactional Analysis is a psychoanalytic theory and method of therapy wherein social interactions are analyzed to determine the ego state of the communicator as a basis for understanding behavior. In transactional analysis, the communicator is taught to alter the ego state as a way to solve emotional problems.
Cognitive Therapy
In cognitive therapy, the focus is on what people think rather than what they do. Cognitive therapy is based on the cognitive model, which states that thoughts, feelings and behavior are all connected, and that individuals can move toward overcoming difficulties and meeting their goals by identifying and changing unhelpful or inaccurate thinking, problematic behavior, and distressing emotional responses. This involves the individual working with the therapist to develop skills for testing and changing beliefs, identifying distorted thinking, relating to others in different ways, and changing behaviors
Humanistic Therapy
In humanistic therapy, the main focus is on a person's capacity to make rational choices and develop. Humanistic therapy adopts a holistic approach that focuses on free will, human potential, and self-discovery. It aims to help you develop a strong and healthy sense of self, explore your feelings, find meaning, and focus on your strengths.

TESTIMONIALS
Nathan B.
After a bereavement I was given Padraig's number. He has helped me on my journey of loss and in the process I have changed my life for the better where other issues came up. I have been to counselling in the past and Padraig has been the best therapist by far. My life is now beautiful and I enjoy each day to the full.

After a long time of addiction and many failed treatments I came to see Padraig. I have been clean and sober for the longest time in my life because of the work we did over a five month period. I would encourage anyone who is struggling to make an appointment with Padraig

Coming to see Padraig was the best decision I have made in my life. We worked on my issues and Padraig introduced me to Transactional Analysis and I use this in all aspects of my life today.
